He had started his career by working for Mecrana Marbles Pvt.Ltd of Mumbai in 1979 as executive site- in- charge. He hails from Thalavoor near Pathanapuram in Kollam district.He holds a diploma in Civil Engineering..He is World Project Director of Global Kerala Foundation. He is married to Mrs Anitha, a home maker. They have a son, Akil Mohan ,studying and daughter M Aiswarya, doing BDS.
