Ramesh Kymal

Mr. Ramesh Kaimal is Managing Director of Vestas India, a wholly owned subsidiary of the ‘Vestas Group’, Denmark. He holds very responsible and reputed positions in wind power associations in pursuit of promoting the sector by increasing business and investment opportunities. He is Chairman of Renewable Energy Council of CII – Sohrabji Godrej Green Business Centre maintaining his larger commitment to promote and make the country a world leader in renewable energy sector by facilitating formulation of consistent renewable energy policies and innovative financing mechanisms. Mr. Ramesh Kymal is also Member of Tamil Nadu Electricity Regulatory Commission, Executive Committee Member – Indian Wind Turbine Manufacturers Association (Formerly Chairman) and Advisor on Wind Industry to Ministry of Non-Conventional Sources (MNES), Government of India. He is recipient of the Solar Society of India Award in 2005 for ‘Business Leadership in Wind Power’. He hails from North Paravoor in Ernakulam District. A Mechanical Engineer from the 1979 batch, Mr. Kymal is specialised in Operations Research and Statistical Quality Control. He has studied Management at the prestigious Management Institute, INSEAD, Fontainebleau, France. He is married to Mrs. Anitha, an artist and Fashion Designer who runs a boutique – ‘Tapasya’ at Kilpauk and the couple has a son – Dinesh and daughter – Divya. Born in Chennai, he is educated at Delhi, Bangalore and France. Mr. Ramesh Kymal started his career as a Lecturer – Mechanical Engineering at Bangalore University Engineering College during 1980-81. Then he went to Europe, worked there, and afterwards pursued higher studies. After that he worked with the UB Group at Malta. Later, Mr. Kymal came back to Chennai to join the UB Group Company – ‘Best & Crompton Co. Ltd.’. Then he started NEG Micon in India which later on came to be known as ‘Vestas. Vestas is the leading supplier of wind power technology in the world and the driving force behind the development of wind power industry. The core business of Vestas comprises of the development, manufacture, sales and servicing of wind power systems. ‘Vestas’ in India, with its base in Chennai today is a Rs.1600 crore company and has been making tremendous growth under the gigantic leadership of Mr. Ramesh Kymal. ‘Vestas’ which made a humble beginning in India, almost a decade and two years ago in 1996 primarily to service wind turbines has travelled a long way in the path of development under the able command of Mr. Kymal. During the passage of development the company has crossed several milestones in installing state-of-the-art large capacity wind turbines in the Indian market. At present Vestas India has an installation base of over 1100 MW comprising of large capacity turbines. The credit of being the first company of its kind in the wind sector to export fully assembled wind turbines and turbine components from India goes to Vestas alone and the source of inspiration behind all these achievements is of none other than Mr. Kymal. The company has also started outsourcing of expertise and manpower for global requirements of its parent company. Even amidst his busy schedules, Mr. Kymal finds sufficient time for various philanthropic activities through his involvement in the areas of education and upliftment of girl child. He is always in the fore of supporting the Malayali institutions. He is extending all supports to the Company club – ‘Wind Buzz’.
