Prof. Balagopalan C.K

Prof. C.K. Balagopalan was born as the son of famous actor and teacher Rasika Shiromani Shri P. Koman Nair(late). Mr Balagopalan had his training in Kathakali under Guru Chandu Panicker and in classical Bharata Natyam under Guru Smt. Rukmini Devi Arundalay. Later on he had his higher level training under the guidance of renowned teachers like Mrs S. Sharada, Mrs Sarada Hoffman and Mrs. N. S. Jayalakshmi. He joined Kala Kshetra with a Government of India’s Scholarship in 1953. Mr. Balagopalan has been considered as a master in Kathakali specially for donning female roles (Stree Vesham). Mr Balagopal has taken part in all the 26 dance dramas produced by Rukminin Devi for depicting all male characters. He has produced a new dance-drama “Bhaktimanjari” for Kala Kshetra during Rukmini Devi’s birth day celebrations in February 1997 that won immense applause. He has received the Sangeetha Nataka Academy Award in 2003. Mr Balagopaln has also worked under Singapore Indian Finance Society during 1978-80. He has also taken part in a dance serial by CPC, New Delhi and has travelled around the globe with Kala Kshetra Troupe. He had conducted workshops in Assam, European Union, United States, etc. Married to Smt. Leela Balagopalan they have two children Pranesh Balagopalan and Prithvija Balagopalan. Address:
