Ashokan. A.E. Ashokan is a prominent Malayalam cine artist who has acted in more than 150 films. He was initiated into the world of Cinema by well-known Malayalam film Director P. Padmarajan. Ashokan’s debut film was ‘Peruvazhiyambalam’, directed by P. Padmarajan. Even though Ashokan was new to the field, Padmarajan took the courage to present him in the role of Hero, which no other leading cine directors of the time and of his stature would have done.Hailing fromCheppad in Alleppy district he is born to late Mr. N.P.Unnithan of Samudayathil House – an aristocratic Nair family of Karuvatta near Haripad in Alleppy district and Mrs. Savithri of Azhakath House on 23rd May 1967. Ashokan completed his basic education at Chinganallur L.P. School, Chingoli and High School education at St.Thomas H. S. Karthikapally. He did collegiate education at T.K. Madhava Memorial (TKMM) College, Nangiarkulangara, Haripad. He is a graduate in arts.He was keenly interested in literature and acting. More over he was a good singer even during the student days.Ever since he acted in the Padmarajan film “Peruvazhiyambalam’, Ashokan did not have to look back, as chances always came in search of him. After his remarkable and a very distinctive performance in the first film, he was spotted by the prominent Malayalam writer and Cine Director Adoor Gopalakrishnan and he made Ashokan the hero of his new film ‘Anantharam’.Following this, Ashokan got several chances to act in the films of noted Directors like Bharathan, K.K. Kumaran, K.G. George etc. He is an actor with so many distinctions and this has always been evident in the roles played by him in different films.“Ashokan never travelled through the path cleared for by others, instead he traveled through the roads made by himself” and this is one of the fundamental distinctions that made him different from others in style. And perhaps, it is this alone which always lead him to success.Ashokan has all along been a good singer too which made him distinctive from others. Again it is this talent which got him the chance to be the Anchor for one of the most popular shows, “SANGEETHIKA’ a programme of musical delight in the Doordarshan.Some of the most popular films of Ashokan include – Yavanika, Edavela, Mukha Mukham, eeran Sandhya, Oormikkan Oormavekkan, Thinkalazha Nalla Divasam, Saayam Sandhya, Chilambu, Pranamam, Asokante Aswathikkutty.In ‘Asokante Aswathikkutty’ he palyed the heroistic role in a very distinct manner which attracted the attention of all. And this made him very much popular for the liveliness of his acting talents.Some of the other most popular hits in which Ashokan acted include: “Vaishali”. He made his talents in acting more explicable in the movies which also include, Abhayam Thedi, No.28 – Madras Mali, Kallan Kappalil Thanne, Thalasthanam, Munnam pakkam, Swagatham, Thoovana Thumpikal, Soorya Maanasam, Amaram, Season, Rukmini, Gandhi Nagar Second Street, In Harihar Nagar, Dominic Presentation and Sthreedhanam etc. Ashokan is one of the Malayalam heroes who are still active in the field and he acts in Tamil as well.He has visited foreign countries like America, England, Middle East, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia and Maldives.He is married to Mrs. Sreeja Ashok from the family of well known Malayalam Cine Director P.Padmarajam and the couple has a daughter Kathiayani Ashok studying in the 9th standard.Ashokan came to settle in Chennai in July 2003, on professional grounds. He has acted in 12 Malayalam and 3 Tamil serials as well.
